Manassas Man Charged With Assaulting Officer

A Manassas area man is accused of assaulting a law enforcement officer who responded to a report of a fight early Saturday morning.

Shane Michael Franklin, 24, of Crozier Court, is charged with assault and battery of a law enforcement officer and intoxication in public.

Prince William County police officers responded at 2:32 a.m. to the 8300 block of Centreville Road for a report of a large fight. When officers arrived, they found that the fight was only verbal. 

"As officers were attempting to disperse the parties involved, the accused became disorderly and struck one of the officers to his chest," police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said in a press release. "The accused was eventually arrested without further incident."

Franklin's court date is set for Oct. 9.
