Manassas Man Charged With Reckless Handling of a Firearm

The suspect fired several shots from a 12-gauge shotgun, Manassas City Police said.

A Manassas man was arrested at a construction site after officers found that he had fired several shots from a shotgun, Manassas City Police said. 

Justin Daniel Leavitt, 26, of Wimbledom Court, is charged with reckless handling of a firearm, discharging a firearm in a public place, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, intoxicated in public, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance. 

Police responded to a 9-1-1 call around 11 p.m. Tuesday night near Lake Jackson Drive and Hasting Drive. The caller told police that man had fired several shots and was walking around with a shotgun, said police spokesman Sgt. Lowell Nevill. 

Officers found Leavitt near a new home construction site by Lake Jackson Drive and Bentfield Street, with help from citizens. They also found a 12-gauge shotgun, ammunition, three spent shotgun casings and suspected narcotics. 

Leavitt is held without bond at the county jail pending his Oct. 15 court date.
