Manassas Prepares to Host "National Night Out"

City will partner with local baseball teams as community takes stand against crime.

Manassas residents will get a chance to take a stand against crime this week, thanks to the community’s “National Night Out.”

The night is designed as a way for communities to come together in opposition to crime, raising drug awareness and strengthening ties with local first responders in the process.

The event is held on the first Tuesday in August each year, and this year’s “Night Out” will run from 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 6., according to the City of Manassas’ website.

Individual neighborhoods often host their own cookouts or block parties, but the city is also sponsoring two different gatherings at the Georgetown South Community Center and the Manassas Museum Lawn in Old Town Manassas.

In Old Town, the city is partnering with the Greater Manassas Baseball League and Potter Baseball’s “Towne Ball” travelling Little League team for the first time to hold baseball displays in addition to other live entertainment, games, and concessions.

Participants can also bring bicycles for a “Bike Rodeo” for kids, new items to donate to local safe houses, unwanted cell phones to be refurbished as emergency phones, and pet items to donate to the animals at the Manassas City Animal Shelter.
