Manassas Teen Charged in September Crash Near Hylton High School

James Callahan Jr.,66, died in the crash, police said.

A Manassas teenager is now charged with reckless driving in connection with the Sept. 6 death of a bicyclist in Woodbridge, Prince William County Police said Wednesday morning.

The 17-year-old girl, whose name isn't being released by authorities, was charged Friday and released, but will appear in court on Jan. 4, police said.
Charges against the teen weren't immediately filed after the death of Joseph James Callahan Jr., 66, of Woodbridge who died at the scene of the crash on Spriggs Road, in front of C.D Hylton High School.

On Wednesday police said officers from the department's crash investigation unit decided to charge the teen after "an extensive investigation" into the incident.

Callahan was riding his bike on a sidewalk in front of the school at 3 p.m. when the 2008 Ford Mustang driven by the teen left the roadway and struck him.

The teen driver does not attend Hylton High School but does go to a school in the area, police said in previous reports.
