Murder Trial Delayed For Man Accused of Killing Childhood Friend

Despite the fact that over two years has passed since , his trial will once again be postponed. 

With witnesses, experts and family members of the victim packed into the left side of the room, Laws and his attorney, Robert May, told Prince William County Circuit Court judge Richard Potter that they needed to terminate their relationship. They told the judge that they did not agree on strategy and had "a breakdown in communication." 

Potter reminded Laws—who has already switched his attorney once before—that he did not have the right to pick which lawyer the court appoints to defend him. Potter said, however, that since neither Laws nor his attorney were ready for trial, he would allow a continuance until the court appointed a new lawyer.

Laws' trial has already been postponed several times—most recently in October, when he refused to enter a plea. The court entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf. Laws was scheduled to stand trial beginning March 4.
