Police: Intoxicated Suspect Tried to Enter Local Preschool

A man accused of several attempted burglaries in the city was arrested in the parking lot of a local preschool Thursday, police said.

A man accused of several attempted burglaries in the area has been arrested.

John Andrew Jackson, of no fixed address, was arrested Thursday in broad daylight in the parking lot of Apple Tree Preschool off of Plantation Lane.

Jackson is accused of several attempted burglaries that had taken place the same day. 

Manassas City Police Officers responded to an area of Devonshire Court where one victim, an elderly woman, told officers that a black male attempted to gain entry into her first floor apartment. She also told officers that the male was in possession of a silver handgun.

Officers searched the area for the suspect and were informed that he was attempting to gain entry into the preschool, located at 8485 Plantation Ln. Officers located the suspect and said he was "lying on the ground and yelling at them."

Jackson was arrested and charged with public intoxication. An investigation revealed that Jackson was in possession of cocaine and phencyclidine (PCP).

He was also charged with possession of a schedule I or II narcotic and was held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center on a $2,500 bond. His court date is August 22.
