Police Investigate Potential Link Between Necklace Robberies

In less than a week, at least three Manassas residents have reported that a man stole necklaces from around their necks—and Prince William County Police say that there may be a link between the strong-armed robberies. 

The first robbery occurred on Sept. 26, around 4:33 p.m., near Hiram Ct. and Notre Dame St., when a 56-year-old man reported that a stranger assaulted him, stole his necklace and ran away. He did not report any injuries. 

The suspect was described as a black male between 18 and 20 years old, six feet tall, about 150 pounds, with a thin build and short black hair. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and pants. 

Just a day later, at 5:58 p.m., a 44-year-old woman reported that an unknown man grabbed the necklace from her neck, which knocked her to the ground. The necklace broke and the suspect fled. The woman had minor injuries from the incident, which took place on the 10900 block of Coverstone Dr. 

The suspect in that incident was described as a man between 18 and 20 years old, around 6-feet-tall, black, with a thin build, who was last seen wearing a white shirt, blue jeans and black cap.

The latest incident occurred on Sept. 29, at 4:30 p.m., when a 70-year-old woman reported that an unknown man approached her and grabbed her necklace. After the necklace broke, he ran to a waiting two-door, black, older model Toyota that had white plastic covering the rear passenger window. 

The description in that case was similar: a man between 18 and 20 years old, black, about six feet tall, 150 pounds, with a thin build and short black hair. He was wearing a black shirt and pants.
