Police: "Significant" Injury After Fall Down Stairs, Assault

Suspect charged with malicious wounding, according to Prince William County Police.

Prince William County Police said a Manassas man seriously injured an acquaintance during an argument that turned violent.

Derek Scott Lett, 22, of Teakwood Court in the Manassas area, is charged with malicious wounding. 

Scott and the 27-year-old victim were arguing Wednesday night on the 10900 block of Postern Court in Manassas, when the altercation turned violent, police said.

"During the encounter, the accused allegedly grabbed the victim, causing him to fall down a set of steps," Officer Jonathan Perok, a spokesman for the police department, said in a press release. "Once on the ground, the accused continued to assault the victim before leaving the area."

The victim sustained "significant, but non-life threatening injuries to his face" during the attack, Perok said. Officers responded to the incident at 11:30 p.m. and found Lett at an address on Laurelwood Court.

Lett was arrested after an investigation and held on a $3,500 secured bond. His court date is set for June 19.
