A homeless man has been arrested after breaking into the abandoned home on Prescott Avenue over the weekend.

According to police, the owner of the home, identified as Ms. Feaganes, called police after locating the man in the home. He had punched several holes in the drywall in an attempt to steal copper piping from the home and removed jewelry from the property.

Police said it is unclear how long the man had been in the home, but that he was later located along the railroad tracks. Police said the homeowner identified the man and the stolen jewelry was located and returned.

Harriet Carter, who lives directly across from the home, was not shocked to hear the news.

She said residents have long expressed concern over the blighted property, pointing to a window that is burst out of the home, exposing its interior to the elements.
