Road Closed, Homes Evacuated for Suspicious Package

Monday afternoon incident led to nearly four-hour closure in Manassas Park community.

A suspicious package discovered Monday afternoon in Manassas Park was determined to be a military training aid, according to Manassas Park Police.

But the discovery of the package near 2:45 p.m. led to the evacuation of nearby homes and closing of roadways, impacting school dismissals and the evening commute.

Contractors removing a shed located the package in a back yard in the 200 block of Manassas Drive. Two homes were evacuated and an area around the home was secured for Explosive Ordinance Personnel.

Due to the incident, Manassas Drive was closed between Moseby and Denver drives, and impacted release for elementary school busses. By 4:45 p.m., busses had left the school.

At 6:30 p.m., Manassas Park police announced that all roads had been reopened and residents returned home.
