Several Larcenies to Vehicles Reported
The Manassas City Police Department is investigating after several residents have reported having their vehicles burglarized.
The Manassas City Police Department is investigating after several vehicles were burglarized, during the overnight hours on May 11, 2012 and May 12, 2012 at the following addresses:
- 8700 block of Weems Rd
- 9400 block of Flowerden Ln
- 10200 block of Cleary St
- 10200 block of Battlefield Dr
- 10000 block of Greenleaf Dr
- 9600 block of Shannon Ln
- 9300 block of Saffron Hill Ct
- 10200 block of Ginny Way
Victims reported a combined total of nearly $2,000 worth of electronic items were removed from the vehicles, according to police.
The vehicles were left unlocked or thought to be locked at the time of the thefts in most reported cases, police said. In several instances, the vehicles were parked in the front of victims’ residences where outside lights had been left off.

According to MCPD Crime Prevention Specialist Adrienne Helms, larcenies from vehicles and larcenies of motor vehicle parts are the most commonly reported property offenses in the city. Citizen reports of larcenies from vehicles resulted in 106 calls for service for police department between December 1, 2011 and May 14, 2012 alone, she said.
Police are reminding residents to close car windows and lock doors at all times and leave exterior lights on overnight to illuminate driveways and other parking areas in front of your home to help reduce the risk of becoming victims of theft.

Residents are also being reminded to choose a parking spot that is well lit and away from shrubbery nooks, and hiding spots when parking in public garages or lots. It is also recommended to park where there are opportunities for passers-by or a lot attendant to provide surveillance. Lastly, police are encouraging all residents to report suspicious activity to police.
