Beat the Heat at a Local 'Cooling Center'

Places where the public can go to escape the dangerous heat in Prince William County and Manassas City.

Prince William County offers Cooling Centers to assist residents in staying cool when temperatures reach 95 degrees or higher.

On hot days like today,  the county's senior center in Manassas will extend its hours to 8 p.m., Monday – Friday, to serve citizens age 55 and older. The Senior Center address and phone numbers is:

 According to a Prince William County press release, county residents who don’t have air conditioning and need to escape the heat are encouraged to go to the local shopping mall or county library, such as the.

Even a few hours spent in air conditioning can help your body stay cooler when you go back into the heat.

Residents may also visit county government buildings, such as the , during business hours to cool down.

Residents are also encouraged to limit time outdoors, drink plenty of fluids and check on elderly family or neighbors throughout the day during heat waves.

Manassas City Deputy Emergency Coordinator Bob Halsall said city residents and the public should seek refuge from the heat at the Manassas Museum or  City Hall on Center Street in Old Town.
