City Names Interim Manager

Director of Finance and Administration for the City of Manassas Patricia A. Weiler was named interim city manager Tuesday.

Outgoing City Manager Larry Hughes' last day was today and City Council held a special meeting to approve the motion to appoint Weiler as the interim manager.

The motion to nominate Weiler was put forth by Council Member Steve Randolph and seconded by Council Member Mark Wolfe.  Her appointment will begin Wednesday, Feb. 1.

"I think this is a terrific idea," Council Member Jonathan Way said. Mayor Parrish agreed.

Weiler has 29 years of accounting and finance experience and 23 of those years have been with local governments, Mayor Parrish said Tuesday.

She has worked for the City of Manassas for 16 years; 13 years as fiance director before becoming director of finance and administration, where she is responsible for human resources, risk management, information technology, GIS, budget and accounting and financial reporting, among other tasks.

Weiler became a Certified Public Accountant in 1983 and is active member of the  Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). She is currently the president of the Virginia GFOA, where she served on the board for six years.

Weiler became a GFOA Certified Public Finance Officer in 2003 and is a member of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). She is currently working towards becoming a credentialed manager, Mayor Parrish said. 

Weiler lives in Prince William County with her husband of 34 years. They have three adult children. 

Hughes, whose last day was today, has served as manager for the city for over 12 years and has been lauded for his work on .

It was noted Tuesdy that Hughes will be missed for his ability to work alongside various councils and three mayors.

City officials have been actively looking for a replacement for Hughes, which Mayor Parrish has identified as a close to impossible task, since mid July, when Hughes announced to council members he would be retiring.
