Colgan Nearly Doubles Gordy's Fundraising in September
Incumbent Sen. Chuck Colgan raised almost $65,000 in September. His opponent, Tom Gordy, raised about $36,000 but most of it was in-kind donations.
Sen. Chuck Colgan has a large lead in campaign funds over his opponent, Tom Gordy, with less than a month before the Nov. 8 election.
Colgan raised $46,250 in cash and had $18,709 in in-kind donations for the month. He spent $44,498, leaving him with $77,900 to spend before the election.
Gordy, a Republican, raised $12,625 in cash with $23,000 in in-kind donations. He spent $32,442, leaving him with $12,507 to spend.

Colgan's two top donors are the Democratic Party Virginia Senate Caucus and Dominion Power. Democrats and Democratic groups have pumped in almost $30,000 to his campaign and the energy/natural resources industry gave him about $14,000 this year.
Gordy's two top donors are the Opportunity Virginia political action committee, which gave him $13,000 and the Republican Party of Virginia, which has given him $10,000 in in-kind donations that paid for his direct mailings. The Opportunity Virginia PAC was originally created to raise money for Gov. Bob McDonnell. The PAC has more than a $1 million to spend and its top donor is Consol Energy Inc, a coal mining and processing company in Pittsburgh.
