County Unemployment Rate Down Slightly

County announces latest figures that say the rate is down 0.7 percent.

The latest (April 2011) unemployment rate for Prince William County is 4.9 percent, down 0.7 percent from 2010.

Virginia's unemployment rate is 5.8 percent and 9.0 percent nationally. In April of 2010 the unemployment rate for the county was 5.6 percent, according to a Prince William County government press release.

The county is able to keep  low unemployment numbers  because of its Northern Virginia location, which is home to both federal government and private sector industries. This provides the area with a diverse and robust marketplace that generates a number of job opportunities, which keeps unemployment well below the national and state averages, the release stated.
