Manassas City Earns Financial Reporting Reward for 28th Time

The award is given by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

The City of Manassas received the Certificate of Achievement—the highest form of recognition given in the area of government financial reporting and accounting, from a national association, city officials announced this month.

The city earned the recognition for its work on the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, also known as CAFA.

Officials from Government Finance Officers Association of the U.S. and Canada (GFOA) presented the award to the city at the Nov. 19 city council meeting.

This is the 28th consecutive year the city has earned this prestigious award and is one of the 5 percent of 90,000 state and local government entities eligible for the certificate award, city employees said.

“I am grateful to our staff who created award-winning financial and budget reports and that our financial outlook is positive,”  Manassas City Manager John A. Budesky said. “Through their efforts and with the redesign of our website, which is coming in February, we can be even more transparent to our residents.”

The city's annual operating budget also received the GFOA's Budget Presentation Award.

City officials said Moody’s expects that the city’s currently solid financial position will remain stable going forward, given the city’s prudent management and conservative budgeting practices.
