Republican Nominees, School Board Challengers Successful at Election

The Republican Convention nominees appear to have secured a spot on city council, according to unofficial election results for the May 2012 Manassas City elections posted on the Virginia State Board of Elections website.

Incumbent Mark D. Wolfe received 1,363 or 20.6 percent of the votes; incumbent Jonathan L. Way received 1,327 votes or 20.06 percent of the votes; and challenger Ian T. Lovejoy nabbed 1,243 votes or 18.8 percent of the votes. Write-in candidate Sheryl Bass did not receive enough votes to stay on council where she currently serves. She received 15.9 percent of the vote.

All six precincts, including absentee votes, have been tallied and reported at 100 percent for both the school board and city council.

School board candidates Scott M. Albrecht and Arthur P. (Art) Bushnell, who currently serve on the board as chair and vice chair, have been re-elected, according to the results Web page. Challengers Ilka V. Chavez and Ellen M. Purdy appear to have snagged the remaining two spots open on the school board, beating out incumbents Kermit Holmes Dance and R.J. 'Jack' Magee, Jr.,  and challenger Charles W. Sutherland.

Albrecht received 1,307 votes or 16.49 percent of total votes and Bushnell received 1,211 votes or 15.28 percent. Purdy received 1,185 votes or 14.95 percent. But it was challenger Ilka Chavez who received the most votes with 17.24 percent or 1,366 total votes.

Harry J. "Hal" Parrish II has been re-elected as mayor after running unopposed. He received 2,291 or 94.7 percent of the votes.
