Virginia Named Top State for Business

McDonnell sat down with CNBC's Scott Cohn at the Mount Vernon estate on Monday to discuss the new ranking.

Gov. Bob McDonnell met on the lawn of the Mount Vernon Estate today with CNBC's Scott Cohn after Virginia rose to the top of the financial news network's Top States for Business.

Virginia and Texas have switched off as winner and runner-up since the study started off in 2007.

The Old Dominion took 1,660 points out of 2,500. Here's how the points break down by category:

  • Workforce (350 points)
  • Infrastructure and transportation (325 points)
  • Economy (300 points)

  • Access to capital (100 points)
  • Cost of living (50 points)

"Our focus, from day one of this administration, has been to put in place the policies that will help private sector businesses create those jobs in the Commonwealth and get our economy back on track. We’ve done that by keeping taxes low, getting government spending under control, having a strong Right to Work law, and making smart investments in transportation, economic development and higher education," McDonnell said. "
