VRE Operations Board Meets to Discuss Fares

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Operations Board meets Friday, and their agenda includes a vote on whether to approve a proposed .  If adopted, the increase would take effect the first week of July 2012, to coincide with the start of FY2013.

The increase for both monthly and single-trip Manassas riders would be as follows:

• to Union Station: Monthly fares would see a  $7 increase over FY2012, bringing the total to $241.20 per month.  Single trip tickets would see a 25-cent increase over FY2012 fares, bringing that total to $8.65 per ticket if the proposed fare increase goes into effect.

VRE is a transportation partnership of:

• Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC)
• Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC).

The commuter rail service operates 29 trains from 18 stations serving the Northern Virginia suburbs to Alexandria, Crystal City and downtown Washington, D.C., along the I-66 and I-95 corridors. Services began in 1992.
