The Stonewall Jackson Lady Raiders basketball team began its 2011/2012 season with a nail-biting win against the defending Northwest Region Champion Forest Park Bruins last night 59-58.
The Raiders overcame a 34-22 halftime deficit to take the lead on a short jump shot by Sydney Jordan with 5.6 seconds remaining.
Stonewall, state runners-up from a year ago, avenged a painful loss to Forest Park in last year's Northwest Region Championship by making defensive adjustments in the third quarter and overcoming a 17 percent first half shooting performance.
Stonewall was led by Senior Forward Ryan Jordan's 18 points and Sophomore Center Nicole Floyd's 15 points.
Forest Park was led by Breyana Mason 25 points and 21 points from Senior Guard Lexi Carpenter, who's last second shot with 1.5 seconds fell short from the corner.
