A center to help gifted and special needs children and their families opened in Manassas on Monday.
The Parent/Teacher Resource Center (PTRC) is located inside the Johnson Learning Center on Tudor Lane, said Almeta Radford, spokeswoman for Manassas City Schools.
The center, which was established with the help of the school division's Special Education Advisory Committee, is for teachers, staff, students and residents who want additional information about special education and issues related to various disabilities, Radford said.
Families with children who are identified as having a disability, as speakers of languages other than English or who are gifted and talented are also encouraged to take advantage of the resource center.
The PTRC is staffed by volunteers and its services are all free, including its lending library stocked with DVDs, CDs and videos and information about community resources.
Center hours are Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. or by appointment.
