OHS Students Awarded Scholarships

Four graduating Osbourn High School seniors are getting off to a good start after being awarded Manassas Education Foundation scholarships.

The Manassas City Public Schools Education Foundation (MCPSEF) has awarded four Osbourn High School seniors with scholarships, according to a press released issued by the organization.

The students were selected by the foundations' board of directors based on their academic achievement, community involvement, service  and a submitted essay that shed light on personal qualities, the release said.

The scholarship recipients were acknowledged at a recent breakfast on May 24 at the American Legion Post 10, a sponsor of the event.

Keynote speakers included MCPSEF President Michael Howard and OHS Principal John Werner, who spoke to the importance of community support in ongoing excellence in education. 

The MCPSEF awards scholarships to OHS graduation seniors each year and the recipients for 2012 are:

  • Kyle Wilson West—Del. Harry J. Parrish Community Service Scholarship
  • Steven Andrew Field—Fine Arts
  • Timothy Joseph Apple—Science and Technology
  • Julie Anne Dalton—Science and Technology

The scholarships are made possible through donations by Lockheed Martin and the Micron Foundation.

According to Managing Director for MCPSEF Rita Colleran, the foundation also offers scholarships in Education and Vocational/Technical training but there were no applicants for these scholarships this year.
