Talking Money: Fairfax School Budget Discussion This Month in Centreville

The meeting comes about a month before the Fairfax County Public Schools Listening Tour meeting at West Springfield High School.

School Board member Elizabeth L. Schultz and other Fairfax County Public Schools staff are getting an early jump on the lengthy budget discussion by hosting a public meeting on Tuesday in Clifton.

Schultz, representative of the Springfield District, along with Susan Quinn, FCPS Assistant Superintendent of Financial Services, are hosting the EarlyBudget Talk Session from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at Centreville High School at 6001 Union Mill Rd., according to the Fairfax County School Board office.

Schultz chose to hold the meeting in Clifton because the district she represents actually includes some of the county's Sully district.

The meeting was originally scheduled for Dec. 10 at the school, but it was postponed because of inclement weather.
The session will include a presentation with an overview of the schools' budget situation.

There will also be time for parents, students and teachers to ask questions about the budget and give their opinion on the Fiscal Year 2015 schools' budget.

Tuesday's meeting is ahead a Feb. 4 Listening Tour meeting hosted by Dr. Karen Garza, superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools.  That meeting is at 7 p.m. at West Springfield High School at 6100 Rolling Rd. in Springfield.

In September the school board adopted a $2.5 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2014, about 1.1 percent more than the approved budget for the previous year.
