Burnett appeared on the show after Weems librarian Rachel Kirkland wrote to the show about the students and their need for school uniforms, a new initiative the school is taking on next year.

Weems is a Title I school, meaning most of the students qualify for free and or reduced-cost lunch because of family income.

Some of the student's families can't afford the uniforms, so the show and partner Shutterfly, an online photo-sharing site, donated $50,000 to the cause.

During the segment, Burnett said that she always tunes into the Ellen show at 3 p.m. so she can see the dancing.

Today was no different. Weems staff along with other schools in the Manassas City Public Schools division watched the show after receiving an all points bulletin about the segment from central office staff Tuesday morning.
