Alisa Harvey of Manassas Returns to the Olympic Trials—at Age 46

One-time world-class 800-meter runner competes with younger masters in Eugene, OR.

Alisa Harvey of Manassas was back in her element Saturday, racing at the track and field Olympic Trials for the fifth time since 1988.

But her 400-meter dash on a wet track in Eugene, OR, was a masters exhibition—with no London Games berth at stake.

At 46, Harvey wasn’t at her best. Her time at historic Hayward Field was 61.74 seconds—slower than a 60.5 she recorded June 3 at a Potomac Valley all-comers meet in Falls Church.

“Hormonally, it wasn’t a good day for me,” Harvey said after taking seventh in a race won by world masters champion Lisa Daley, 42, of White Plains, NY. “Everything else was perfect.”

Harvey was a star at Tennesee in the 1980s and went on to a long career as a middle-distance runner and road runner.

Now a coach at in Falls Church, Harvey expects to run some more all-comers meets in the area this season—and prep for the Army 10-Miler, which she has won several times.
