Baseball Round Up: Week of April 23

Local baseball teams have winning week.

All three Manassas area high school baseball teams scored wins this week.   Osbourn, Osbourn Park, and Stonewall each played twice and the teams posted a combined 5-1 record for the week.

was able to get back on track after hitting a brief rough patch a couple weeks ago. The Yellow Jackets began the week by beating Freedom (Prince William), 17-1. Osbourn Park dominated the entire game offensively and defensively.

The second game of the week for the Yellow Jackets was against Hylton, one of the best teams in the area this year. Many believed the game would be very close and low-scoring, but the Yellow Jackets  had other ideas. The team got off to a good start offensively and was able to tally eight runs against a team with very good pitching. The Yellow Jackets were also able to shut down Hylton's offense. The Yellow Jackets picked up an 8-1 victory and sent a very clear message that they can compete with the best teams around. After a strong week, Osbourn Park now has an overall record of 11-4 and they are 6-2 in the Cardinal District.

The had a very strong showing this week, winning both their games. They opened the week against cross-town rival, the Stonewall Raiders. Both teams came out with a lot of intensity and bragging rights were on the line. The Eagles were able to strike first and did not allow Stonewall to get back in the game. It was a dominant performance by Osbourn as they shut out the Raiders,  5-0.

Osbourn's second game of the week was another district match-up as they squared off against Freedom (Loudoun). The Eagles excelled on offense early but Freedom battled right back. Eventually the Eagles were able to pull ahead and held on for a 7-5 win. After a solid week, Osbourn's record is now 8-6 overall, and 4-2 in the Cedar Run District.

Stonewall  Jackson High School played an excellent game against Battlefield to avoid an 0-2 week after losing to Osbourn. Both teams got great outings from their pitchers and it was a close game from start to finish. Two runs was enough to win the game and, fortunately for Stonewall, they came out on top. It was a hard-fought victory for the team as they won, 2-1. After going 1-1 for the week, Stonewall's overall record is 7-9 and they are 2-4 in the Cedar Run District.

The Manassas teams will look to carry their momentum into this week in an effort to stay hot. Osbourn will be back in action tonight against Gar-Field while Osbourn Park and Stonewall will play Tuesday.
