Baseball Roundup: Week of April 30

Local baseball teams see plenty of action this week.

The Manassas area high school baseball teams had a full slate of games this week. Osbourn and Osbourn Park each played three games, while Stonewall played two.

It was a very important week for all three teams as the regular season is winding down. Each team is doing what they can to better their position in the district standings before the playoffs begin.

The Osbourn Eagles began the week on a positive note as they opened up with a win against Gar-Field. The Eagles had a decent game offensively, pushing five runs across, and got a very solid performance on the pitching end. The final score of the game ended up being, 5-1.

The Eagles were able to continue their winning ways in the second game of the week. It was a contest against Battlefield, who has become somewhat of a rival for the Manassas-area teams. Osbourn again swung the bats fairly well while also playing good defense behind a solid pitching performance. When it was all said and done, the Eagles beat the Bobcats 6-2.

The Eagles finally began to wear down by the third and final game and Broad Run  beat the Osbourn, 6-0. Osbourn couldn't get the bats going and it seemed as though fatigue started to set in as a result of playing three games in five days. It was a good week for the Eagles and they improved their record to 10-7 overall, 5-3 in the district.

The Osbourn Park Yellow Jackets got off to a good start for the week as they beat district rival, Woodbridge, 10-7.  Osbourn Park used their bats, which have been good all season, to propel them to victory.

Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets struggled in their two remaining games. They suffered a tough 6-2 loss to Patriot before also falling 6-2 at the hands of Potomac. Both losses hurt, but the second one was a district game. After going 1-2 on the week, Osbourn park is now sitting at 12-6 overall, 7-3 in the district.

The Stonewall Raiders played two games during the week and neither game turned out well. In the first game, Stonewall struggled offensively and defensively on their way to a 10-0 loss against Broad Run.

The Raiders were hoping to bounce back in their second game against district rival, Patriot. Unfortunately, Stonewall continued to struggle offensively as they were held scoreless for the second straight game. Patriot topped the Raiders 3-0. After the two losses, Stonewall is now 7-11 overall, 2-6 in the district.
