Broad Run Ends Osbourn Win Streak, 27-20

Spartans stuff Eagles on final drive for the win

Osbourn (5-3, 1-1) had its five-game winning streak snapped Friday night after the team was defeated, 27-20 by Broad Run (6-1, 1-0).

The Eagles were faced with a first and goal from the Spartan eight yard line in the final minutes of the game, but were unable to convert on four straight rushing attempts.

On first and second down, junior quarterback Connor Lane carried the ball for three yards each time. With only two yards to go, Osbourn turned to running back Cedrick Delaney, who was stuffed a three-yard loss twice.

Delaney carried the ball 33 times for a total of 175 yards on the night, but was held scoreless for the first time this season. Lane added 38 yards rushing on 11 attempts and made major contributions through the air. He completed 3-4 pass attempts for 82 yards, with two of them going for touchdowns.

For the second week in a row, Osbourn engaged in a Cedar District battle that was a close game down to the final minutes. Despite the loss, the Eagles are not out of contention for the district title.

Broad Run faces Battlefield next week in a match-up that is sure to mirror this game’s excitement level.

The Eagles look to bounce back next Friday as they travel to Stonewall Jackson to take on the cross-town rivals at 7:30 p.m.
