Eagles Dominate In Regular Season Finale

The Osbourn boys basketball team won their regular season finale against Heritage on Thursday and also honored their seniors.

The Osbourn boys basketball team played host to Heritage High School on Thursday night in a Cedar Run District battle and the final regular season game for Osbourn.

It was also Senior Night and Osbourn seniors,  Izzy Freeman and Lucky Whitehead were honored before the game.

The Eagles had already clinched the regular season district title and were looking to finish the regular season with a strong performance. They did just that as they completely dominated the game from the opening tip, eventually beating Heritage by a final score of 89-53.

Osbourn came out hot in the first quarter, scoring easy baskets after  forcing multiple turnovers. Osbourn used their size to their advantage on the inside as Heritage did not have an answer for  center Izzy Freeman.

The Eagles also got great play from their guards who put on a clinic with their ball movement skills to create easy buckets on offense. At the end of a dominant first period, Osbourn led 25-11.

The second quarter started out the same way as the first and would not turn out to be much different: The Eagles continued to dominate on both sides of the floor and continued to shoot the ball with great efficiency.

The Osbourn guards were driving the lane, sometimes getting to the rim to score, other times making no-look passes to an open man for the easy bucket. It was good Osbourn basketball and the Eagles were showing why they are among the state’s best teams. At the half, Osbourn had a 52-26 lead.

Osbourn slowed things down a  bit in the second half on the offensive end. Several players who normally play a lot of minutes were given a chance to rest their legs as some of the back-ups got some extra time.

The Eagles continued to play strong defense and put up good numbers on the board. After outscoring Heritage,18-12 in the third, the Eagles led 70-38.

Osbourn’s back-ups played the majority of the quarter and did a solid job as they outscored Heritage 19-15 in the final quarter. The Eagles had five of their players score in double figures as they coasted to a 89-53 victory. The top performers for the Eagles were:

Izzy Freeman with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocks

Cedric Delaney with 12 points and eight assists

Jahaan Roberson with 11 points and eight rebounds

Robert Carter with 11 points

Jay Lane with 10 points

Osbourn improved their record to 20-1  on the season and 8-0 in the district with the victory. The Eagles played good basketball and they will have plenty of momentum to carry into the district tournament, which starts on Tuesday evening.
