Eagles Top Stafford to Advance in Regionals

The Osbourn boys basketball team beat Stafford Wednesday night to advance in the regional tournament.

The Osbourn Eagles kept the ball rolling Wednesday night as they completely dominated Stafford in the first round of the regional tournament.

Osbourn once again showed why they are considered one of the top teams in the state as they dominated on both sides of the court to ultimately put an end to Stafford’s season.

The Eagles outscored Stafford in all four quarters en route to a 92-65 victory.

Stafford held the ball, passing around the perimeter on their first few possessions and it was evident the team wanted to limit the number of times the ball was in Osbourn's possession.  And in the first quarter the strategy was somewhat effective as they held the Eagles to 10 points.

Unfortunately for Stafford, though, Osbourn’s defense was even better as they held the Indians to two points, giving the Eagles a 10-2 advantage after one period.

Stafford quickly abandoned the original game plan in the second quarter, as they realized it was not going to be effective. Once Osbourn saw the opening, the Eagles took control and the offense soared the rest of the way.

Osbourn put up 19 second-quarter points and held Stafford to six as the Eagles took a 29-8 lead into the half.

Stafford showed some fight as they began the third quarter on a 10-1 run. The Eagles  answered right back, though, with a 10-2 run of their own. The Osbourn offense would then explode as they scored at will in the second half. The Eagles received standout performances from multiple players. The team was able to tally 26 points in the third quarter and then a whopping 37 in the fourth, giving the Eagles a total of 63 second-half points.

At the end of a second half in which the Eagles filled up the stats sheet, Osbourn had run away with a 92-65 victory. The leading performers were:

--Cedric Delaney with a season-high 27 points

--Jahaan Roberson with 17 points and 7 rebounds

--Jay Lane with 13 points and 4 assists

--Corey Bedford with 9 points and 4 assists

--Izzy Freeman with 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 blocks

The Eagles also received five points from Logan Miller and four points from Connor Lane. Osbourn showed in this game why they are such a tough match-up for any opponent as the Eagles showed off multiple weapons in the game.

With the players that Osbourn has, opponents cannot key in on one or two players and expect to be successful as it seems like the Eagles always have players rise to the occasion to propel them to victory.

Osbourn had the crowd behind them all night and it will likely be magnified even more when the Eagles play at home on Friday night. Osbourn will be hosting Patrick Henry on Friday evening at 6 p.m. for a chance to advance even further in the regional tournament. It will be interesting to see which of the Eagles’ stars will lead them on Friday night as they continue their record breaking season.
