Edwards Leads Eagles to Championship Victory

Osbourn wins Lake Braddock holiday tourney.

The Osbourn Eagles boys basketball team continued its winning ways on Thursday night, defeating tournament host Lake Braddock and claiming the championship title.

It is the second straight year Osbourn has won the championship for the local holiday tournament.

The score remained close throughout the game, before Osbourn finally pulled away late in the fourth quarter.

The game was out of the ordinary for the Eagles, who are used to a very fast-paced, high-scoring style of basketball. Thursday night's final score topped out at 59-46.

It was refreshing in some ways to see Osbourn win a game that wasn't filled with constant running and transition baskets. The Eagles proved they can adapt and execute against different types of teams, which will be key late in the season when teams use different strategies.

Senior big man Raphael Edwards stepped up and took over the game for Osbourn. Edwards came out after the half and completely dominated the third quarter. He poured in 16 points in the third period alone and finished the game with 28 points to go along with 16 rebounds.

Eagle Jay Lane put up 14 points and Robert Carter scored 9.  Osbourn was 10 for 10 from the free throw line.

Osbourn is the team to beat this year as they are solid on defense, have a big man that is hot offensively, and produce flawless results from the free throw line.

The victory put the Eagles at 9-0 for the season. Osbourn has a couple days off before they are back in action early next week, traveling to Broad Run on Tuesday for a 7:30 tip off.
