Osbourn Boys Too Much for Stonewall

The Osbourn boys basketball team won a big district game against Stonewall Friday night.

The Osbourn boys basketball team hosted Stonewall last night in an important district match-up between two Manassas teams.

The Eagles entered Friday night’s game with a 12-0 record and were looking to continue their winning streak against the Raiders. Osbourn was able to do just that as they outscored Stonewall in three out of the four quarters and ran away with a 79-52 victory.

Osbourn came out hot and took control of the game from the opening tip. The Eagles went on a 7-0 run to start the game and stayed hot throughout the period as they led 26-12 after the first.

Osbourn continued their dominance in the second quarter as the offense continued to play well while the defense was doing what they have been doing all season; shutting the opponent down. The Eagles scored twice as many points as the Raiders in the second quarter which led to Osbourn going into halftime with a 46-22 lead.

After a first half dominated by Osbourn, the Raiders of Stonewall came out in the third quarter and showed some signs of life. The Eagle offense cooled off a bit in the third quarter as they uncharacteristically turned the ball over several times in the period, which led to Stonewall points at the other end.

The Raiders outscored Osbourn in the quarter, but the Eagles still led 61-42 after the third.

Osbourn was able to claim the game in the fourth quarter, allowing some of the team's reserves to get some playing time.

Osbourn’s Lucky Whitehead, arguably the best defender in the area, left the game after a minor shoulder injury which led to him sitting out much of the second half.

Fortunately, Osbourn had a commanding lead and Whitehead was able to rest.

Osbourn ended up outscoring Stonewall 18-10 in the fourth quarter, which led to the Eagles winning the game by a final of 79-52.

The Eagles ended up with a commanding victory, but did not play their best basketball.

Coach Rodney Jordan said, “We did not play as well as we could have [Friday] night, but managed to win the game. If we play like that against a tougher opponent, we will lose.”

The leading performers in the game for Osbourn were:

Izzy Freeman with 16 points and 22 rebounds

Corey Bedford with 14 points

Jay Lane with 13 points

Cedric Delaney with 11 points and 6 assists

Robert Carter and Landon Dufrene who each finished with 8 points

Stonewall was led by Shaquan Smith who scored 12 points. The Raiders got 11 points from Kurinis Lett and 10 points each from J.R. Washington and Marquis Yates.

Osbourn improved to 13-0 on the season with the latest victory, while the Raiders dropped to 7-7.

The Eagles were back in action Saturday night, playing Potomac Falls. Stonewall will not be back in action until Tuesday when they go to Battlefield to play at 7:30.
