Osbourn Hits Gridiron Hungry for More

Defending regional champs building on success.

Despite having a target on its back, the reigning regional champion Osbourn High School football team has an appetite for more.

But Head Coach Steve Schultze is taking it one day at a time. And those days began August 1 when the Eagles started practice for the 2011 season.

Although the first three days of camp have consisted of practices without equipment and filling out the necessary paper work, Schultze already has a very positive feeling about the overall make-up of the team.

“I am very pleased with the first three days of camp. We have been putting in a lot of new concepts and the guys are catching on quickly. I’ve got a great group of kids this year, especially the offensive line. These are usually guys that do not get a lot of publicity, but we really have some smart, dedicated leaders this year who truly are student-athletes,” Schultze said.

The Eagles are coming off a 12-1 campaign last season that was halted in the state semi-finals with a 21-0 loss to Stonebridge High School. Despite being defending Cedar Run District and Northwest Region champions, Schultze says the team is still hungry.

“We obviously want to build on the success we had last year, but we must take it one step at a time. Our first goal is to win the Cedar Run District title and make it back to the playoffs. We will not be happy or satisfied without improving on what we did last year and getting better each and every day,” said Schultze.
