Osbourn Wins District Title

The Osbourn boys basketball team beat Stonewall Friday night to win the district championship.

The Osbourn boys basketball team played host to Stonewall on Friday night as the two teams battled for the Cedar Run District championship title.

Osbourn beat Stonewall twice in the regular season, but everyone knew it would be a tough game as there was a title on the line this time.

The Eagles took control of the game early; the defense shut down Stonewall's efforts to put points on the board, which allowed Osbourn to take a double-digit lead into half time.

Stonewall turned up the intensity in the third quarter and the Eagles ended up blowing a 16-point lead. The game remained tight down the stretch but OHS mangaged to hold off the late charge of the Raiders for a 57-53 victory.

The Eagles were led last night by Raphael Edwards who scored 18 points and also grabbed 16 rebounds. Edwards was also impressive from the free throw line as he made all eight of his attempts. Jay Lane continued his solid play as he tallied 12 points to go along with his solid defensive play. Corey Bedford and Cedrick Delaney each contributed with 9 points while Landon Dufrene continued his solid play off the bench, playing great defense and grabbing five rebounds.

The district championship was just another checkpoint in Osbourn's quest for a state championship this year.

The experienced OHS basketball team has dominated all season long scoring an average of 80 points per game.

The next obstacle standing in their way will be a regional match-up. Osbourn finished second in the region last year, but lost in the state quarterfinals.
