Sports Weekly Roundup: OHS Clinches District Titles

Osbourn clinches baseball, soccer district titles, but comes up short in track and field and softball.

Osbourn Eagles won district titles in soccer and baseball last week, but otherwise found themselves coming up short.

Outdoor Track and Field:

Osbourn’s boys and girls finished last in the Cedar Run district on May 17. Osbourn did have three first place finishes: Mikal Johnson placed first in the long jump with 16 ft. 3 in. and the triple jump with 34 ft. and 3.5 inches. Rodney Whitehead placed first in the boys’ 200 meter dash with a time of 22.5 seconds.

Battlefield High School’s boys and girls team won Districts with 224.5 and 218.5, respectively. Osbourn boys scored 38 points and the girls scored 37.

Soccer:

Osbourn boys varsity soccer team clinched the Cedar Run District title game last Saturday after beating Stonewall Jackson  2-1. Hector Miranda and Jon Cornwell were responsible for the Eagles’ two goals. The win came after they were shut out by Battlefield by 2-0. They finished the season with an overall 6-1-5 record, according to the News and Messenger.

OHS girls soccer finished third (9-6) in the district, and one of its’ players, Katie Novak, tied with Aly Shaughnessy from Battlefield and Annah Lindberg from Forest Park to lead the league in goals with 14, according to The News and Messenger.

Baseball

Osbourn finished second in the district overall to Battlefield, but beat Battlefield Thursday night 2-1 in the  District Tournament. Both teams will go to the AAA Northeastern Regional Championships, Osbourn will play Halifax County High School Tuesday at 3 pm.

Softball:

Osbourn lost their last softball game of the season 21-1 against Stonewall, according to the Washington Post. They finished the season 2-10.
