Stonewall Jackson's Danielle Burns

Danielle Burns from Stonewall Jackson's girls basketball team is the Manassas Patch Athlete of the Week

The Manassas Patch Athlete of the Week for the week of February 7th- February 13th is Stonewall Jackson's Danielle Burns, who plays on the school's varsity girls team.

Burns has been extremely dominant and helped lead Stonewall to a 3-0 record for the week. Not only did she help lead the Raiders to those three victories, but she did it in style as she had some extraordinary offensive performances.

In the Raiders’ first game of the week, the team beat Heritage in a district match-up by a final score of, 101-31.  Burns tallied an impressive 27 points in the lop-sided victory. She was dominant all night on offense and teamed up with senior Joy Caracciolo to score over half of the team’s 101 points. Burns was also a force on defense as she helped force a ton of turnovers that led to easy buckets for the Raiders in transition.

In their second game of the week, Stonewall again demolished their opponent as they topped Loudoun Valley, 93-16.  Burns led the way towards victory for the Raiders as she scored 25 points, including three three-pointers. This time, she and fellow teammate Ryan Jordan combined to score 49 of the 93 points.

Burns was again stingy on defense along with the rest of the team as they rarely allowed Loudoun Valley to cross half-court. Burns and the Raiders once again dominated like they have in many of their district games this season.

In the final game of the week for Stonewall, Burns and the Raiders topped Battlefield on Saturday night to cap off a great week of basketball. The final score was 85-28 and  Burns had her highest scoring game of the week with 29 points.

She had an incredible three-game stretch as she averaged 27 points per game for the week. Stonewall is undefeated in the district this year and has a 14-6 overall record.

The Raiders’ solid record is due in large part to performances like the ones that Danielle Burns put on this past week. She and her teammates are looking to carry the momentum into the district tournament, which started Monday night at Stonewall Jackson.

The Raiders will be in action this evening as they take on Battlefield at home.
