Weekly Baseball Roundup: Week of April 9

Osbourn Park looks like the team to beat early on in the season, winning both games played last week and bringing their overall record to 8-2.

All three Manassas-area high schools including Osbourn, Stonewall, and Osbourn Park played two baseball games this past week.

The Yellow Jackets of Osbourn Park continued to stay hot, while Osbourn had an up and down week and Stonewall continued to struggle on the diamond.

Stonewall opened the week with a match-up against the Battlefield Bobcats. The Raiders struggled to stay in the game as Battlefield dominated offensively. When it was all said and done, Stonewall suffered a 9-3 loss at the hands of the Bobcats.

The Raiders played their second game on Friday evening against Patriot, the most recently built high school in the area. Stonewall was hoping to bounce back after a tough loss earlier in the week, but were unable to capitalize the way they would have liked. It was a hard-fought game by both teams but Patriot ended up walking away with a 7-5 victory. The loss put Stonewall's record at 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the district.

The Osbourn Eagles opened their week with a contest against Freedom of Loudoun County. The Eagles played a solid game both offensively and defensively and were able to walk off the field with a 5-2 victory.

Osbourn was hoping to carry that momentum into Friday's game against Broad Run. Unfortunately for the Eagles, Broad Run came out with much more intensity and took control of the game. It ended with Osbourn suffering a disappointing 10-4 loss. Osbourn will go into this week with a 5-5 overall record along with a 1-1 record in the district.

Osbourn Park looks like the area's team to beat early on in the season. The Yellow Jackets continued their winning ways as they won both games last week. They opened the week against Potomac and dominated the game with their high-powered offense. They were able to swing their way to a 12-6 victory over the struggling Panthers.

In their second game OP squared off against Gar-Field who has struggled to win games all season. The Yellow Jackets proved to be the far-superior team, putting a beating on the Indians and winning 16-2. After their two wins, Osbourn Park is now sitting pretty with an 8-2 record overall as well as a 4-1 record in the district.

All three teams will be back in action this week as they look to build momentum in the second half of the season. Be sure to get out and support the area teams!
