Baseball Roundup: Week of April 16

Eagles baseball defeats top team in the district so far this season; while the Yellow Jackets of Osbourn Park suffer two losses, slipping to third place.

Baseball season is now half-way done,  and things are really starting to heat up. Each of the Manassas-area teams played two games this past week and some of the results were rather surprising.

Osbourn Park, who got off to a hot start, lost both of their games this past week. The first contest of the week for the Yellow Jackets was on Tuesday as they squared off against Forest Park. The Bruins have also had a solid season to this point and many were looking forward to a close and entertaining game between the two teams. Instead, it turned out to be a lopsided victory for Forest Park as they breezed past Osbourn Park with a 7-1 win.

The Yellow Jackets played again on Friday night, hoping to bounce back from a frustrating loss. This time around they played Mountain View, who also has a solid team. Osbourn Park came up short again as Mountain View was able to hang on for a 5-3 victory. With the two losses, Osbourn Park now has a record of 8-3 overall and they are 4-2 in the Cardinal District, which puts them in third place at this time.

The Eagles of Osbourn also had two games this past week. It has been an up and down season so far for the Eagles, and they were hoping to string together some victories. Unfortunately for the Eagles, they ran into a Battlefield team on Tuesday that was more prepared for the district match-up. Osbourn couldn't get anything going offensively and the Bobcats ran away with a 5-1 victory.

The Eagles were able to bounce back on Friday night, though, as they were able to knock off Patriot— the top team in the Cedar Run District so far this season. Osbourn really stepped up with their backs against the wall and got a big win. The final score over Patriot was 6-3. Osbourn now has an overall record of 6-6 and a 2-2 record in the Cedar Run District, good enough for fifth place.

The Stonewall Raiders started the week off on a good note as they were able to knock off Broad Run in a big district contest. The Raiders swung the bats well to give their pitching staff some run support, which lead to them taking a 6-3 victory.

In their second game on Thursday evening, Stonewall again swung the bats fairly well. Unfortunately for the Raiders this time, the pitching staff was not able to stifle the opposing offense. It was Freedom of Loudoun County that got the best of Stonewall this time around as they won 7-5. Stonewall now has an overall record of 6-8 and is sitting in last place in the Cedar Run District with a record of 1-3.
