Whiz Kids: Brothers to Renovate Boys & Girls Club for Service Project

And they need your donations to reach their goals.

Two brothers are looking to help the local Boys & Girls Club by creating a theater and dance room for members to use as part of their Eagles Scout project.

Bryan and Alex Habashi are twins and members  of Bull Run District Troop 1360.

As part of their service project to become Eagle Scouts, they will each transform a general multi-purpose room at the club into rooms with a specific purpose for area youth.

Bryan will be turning one of the rooms into a home theater room, so members will have a place to watch movies and engage in the club's various culture arts programs, such as drama.  Bryan plans on painting the room a nice dark color and installing a theater curtain around the TV. He also plans on adding ambiance by placing scances on the wall and couches.  His plans also include adding a table for theatre snacks to be enjoyed.

Bryan said to make this dream come true form the club and its youth, he will need support from local businesses and organizations in the area with materials, money or donations. Here are the material he needs for his project:

  • 3 couches
  • 50 inch flat screen TV
  • Paint (5 gallon dark red)
  • Primer (5 gallon dark red)
  • 1 sofa table
  • 8 dark-red fabric panels (54 in. W x 96 in. L)

Bryan’s brother, Alex will be using his service project to transform another room in the club  into a dance studio complete with mirrored walls, ballet bar and a portable stage. The room will also be able to function as a multi-purpose room, where the club can conduct more of their nationally recognized culture of arts programs.

Alex said he will need the following materials to complete the project:

  • Three wall mirrors (4 ft. x6 ft. each)
  • Ballet bar with brackets (2 in. dia. X 12 ft. long)
  • Paint (3 gallon black and 3 gal. White)
  • Primer (3 gallon black and 3 gal. White)
  • Laminate flooring (50 boxes)
  • Movable/portable stage
  • Fabric music notes (for windows, 4 ft. long each)
  • Poster frame (4-24x36)

The Manassas Boys & Girls Club serves over 1,500 members a year, ages 5-18 within the Northern Virginia area. Membership to the club is only $30 a year, but according to the club, the true cost is over $900 per year for one child. The club is able to continue to provide affordable, quality programming due to the support of service programs like this.
