Manassas 11-year-old Raises Money For Charity, Awarded Kohl's Scholarship

The young Manassas resident has raised thousands of dollars for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

An 11-year-old Manassas student is one of six youth from the Washington, D.C. metro area to earn a Kohl's Department Store scholarship for their volunteerism and charitable efforts in their respective communities. 

Joshua Jurack served as a Muscular Dystrophy Association Goodwill Ambassador and the Goodwill Ambassador to the Fairfax County Fire Department to raise funds for the association, a Kohl's spokesperson said. 

With help from his family, Joshua—who has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy—raised more than $100,000 for the organization in the past six years. 

As a result of his efforts, Kohl's Department Store presented him with a $1,000 scholarship. He was also qualified to win a $10,000 scholarship through the Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program. 

Joshua and the other five winners from the area were chosen out of 35,000 nominees from all over the nation. 

The other Washington metro winners are: Jason Cui, 17, of Great Falls, Melia Gayaldo, 9,of Silver Spring, Carlyssa Prather, 7, of Gaithersburg,Danielle Ritter, 11, of Winchester and Bethany West, 17, of Stafford.
