5 Choices for Weekend Fun in Manassas

The first weekend of August is full of entertainment options in the Manassas area. Click the hyperlink at each event for more information.

1. The Manassas African American Heritage Festival is from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Metz Middle School. More info at this link.

2. Greet World War II Veterans who arrive Friday on Honor Flights at Dulles International Airport. The Honor Flight Network provides free flights for World War II veterans to Washington DC to see the World War II Memorial. Local Boy Scout troops greeted the veterans at the airport during the July 10 honor flight.  Get more info at honorflight.org and heroeswelcome.org.

3. Into politics? Atif Qarni, Democratic candidate for the 13th District of Virginia's House of Delegates, will host a campaign office opening event at 11 a.m. Saturday at 7614 Centreville Rd in Manassas. Get more info here.

4. Hopes for Heather, a fundraiser and awareness campaign hosted by the Manassas City Police Association is Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Manassas Boys & Girls Club on Dean Park Drive. The purpose of the event is to remind drivers to slow down and move over when they see emergency lights and to not text and drive.  The event is inspired by Manassas Police Officer Heather Munsterman who was struck in July by a passing car during a traffic stop.  Get more info here.

5. Do the Cha-Cha this Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the First Sunday Dance at the Candy Factory Center for the Arts in Manassas. Two left feet? Lessons are offered at 3:30 p.m. Price is $15 for the lesson and the dance and $10 to just dance. Get more info here.
