The side roads are extremely dangerous! Why wouldn't there be a delay?

I think Prince William County should closed on Wednesday because the back roads are bad.

I agree that missed school days need to be made up. However, reducing Elementary school recess toRead More 10 minutes per day is not the answer. These kids are hyper by nature at this age and already have short attention spans. Exams were cancelled a few weeks back and yet PW County continued with a planned teacher workday and early dismissal day. Both coming the 2 days following missed snow days. Seems to me if you cancel exams there was no longer a need for the workday which was most likely set aside for grading. March 31 is a logical choice but what about April 21? Five days of spring break is more than adequate given the number of snow days missed this year. In the end, reducing recess for our Elementary kids is only going to cause more issues for the teachers.

This is one more reason I homeschool. In less than two hours at home my son has learned more than heRead More would learn in an 8 hour kindergarten day....and then he can run around and play for hours instead of 10 measly minutes. I can imagine that students will be jumping out of their skin by the time they get home.
There's a way around the calendar crunch for some snow days: a state waiver. Patch file photo.

Since they are not going to change the date of regularly scheduled testing I don't think that makingRead More up the days do anything good for the students. Unless these days can be made up in advance of the test (sol, ect) so my vote it to not extend school!

Most schools around the world have classes year round. We have 180 days and then aren't even goingRead More to make up the ten missed days. It's ridiculous. These kids need to be in school. Yes make up the days, go to a longer school year. Make Monday's full day, take away teacher work days and whatever else it takes. There were talks about starting before Labor Day every year - why didn't that take place? Our kids are missing out on education and they need to be in school more to make up for it.

Maybe schools should have thought of this before classes were cancelled. There's no reason kidsRead More can't go to school because of the threat of snow. And "storms" where we get 2 inches and classes cancelled are JOKE. And I'm sorry when temps are in the low 20's with windchills in the teens or single digits - that's what layers are for... wear winter clothing and dress for the weather. I have absolutely no sympathy for the kids needing to be in school longer.

Why didn't the Lynn family inform the county that the graves were there? Had they forgotten theRead More graves? My family has many grave sites through out Virginia. We Don't know where all of them are located. Tombstones from my family has been used as patio pavers, some been moved to make way for interstate hi ways, some were paved over at churches for parking. Some even have had houses built above them. One grave site, the builder put an apartment building next to it and then called the grave yard a child's playground. Even at Lorton, the prison had inmates wash the head stones until all the names, dates and whatever else that was carved into them vanished. What surprises me about this incident is that they have taken the high road to re intern the remains at a proper cemetery.

Little if any regard is given to old private cemeteries unless the public becomes aware of them andRead More there is no choice. There were a lot of graves dug into and remains scattered in the Hayfield area of Fairfax County. Hayfield High School was built over the remains from many graves. And just up the hill on Hayfield Road, the parking lot at the IHOP restaurant covers many graves and remains, most of which are said to be from the Rogers family. The old "don't ask and don't tell" rule of thumb has been around a lot longer than most people know!

Regardless of how unfettered development has been in the past, we have an obligation to preserve theRead More memories of what came before us, as much as possible. The school board's citing of the costs associated with each option is a consideration, but does not relieve them of the obligation to do the right thing. Our county already looks bad on this issue.
