Latest win Friday over South Lake High Seahawks, 55-53.
The Manassas Stonewall Jackson girls advanced to semifinal play this weekend with the Friday win, 55-53, over South Lake High School in the a Virginia AAA state tournament quarterfinal game at Robinson High School. Even with several injured players, No. 10 Stonewall Jackson (24-3) held off the Seahawks down the stretch for the victory - the 16th straight for the Raiders. Stonewall Jackson was led by Nicole Floyd with 16 points and Amanda Hinton with 14. The Raiders will play Princess Anne in a state semifinal game Monday in Richmond. South Lakes was led by junior Abigail Rendle with 16 points.

Nick Cooper reportedly collapsed during a match on Saturday.
An Osbourn Park High wrestler who reportedly collapsed during a match Saturday in Woodbridge is now awake and cracking jokes from his hospital bed, according to a Facebook post on the school's wrestling page Prince William Today reports, senior Nick Cooper,18, collapsed during a district meet at Forest Park High School. He was wrestling on his birthday against Hylton High School’s Lawrence Hall. The teen regained consciousness before he was transported to Sentara Potomac Hospital for treatment. Information about Cooper’s condition isn’t immediately available. Hundreds of speed skating enthusiasts are expected to flock to Prince William County this week for the U.S. Junior National Short-Track Speed Skating Championship at the Prince William Ice Center. Beginning on Friday, 75 skaters from 13 to 19 years old will compete in the three-day event in Woodbridge, but far less than half of that number will win one of the eight spots at the World Junior Short Track Championship in Poland. The Washington Redskins have spent since 2007 traveling the road back to the NFL playoffs -- but it's been a heck of a ride. Next stop: Sunday's wildcard game against the Seattle Seahawks. All this hailing to the Redskins should seem familiar. In 2007, the Redskins also made the 2007 NFL playoffs as a wildcard team. And, just like this year, that 2007 playoff game was against the Seattle Seahawks. Let's hope the similarities end there, because the Seahawks won the last time around. Dean College student and 2011 Osbourn High graduate Rodney “Lucky” Whitehead will soon play for the Florida Atlantic University Owls.
Osbourn High graduate Rodney "Lucky" Whitehead is moving up to the big leagues. After two seasons as a slot receiver on the Dean College football team, Whitehead has signed on to play Division I football at Florida Atlantic University, Josh Singer, marketing director for Dean College, said. Whitehead has earned other accolades this season, Singer said. He was also recently named a National Junior College Association All American. Whitehead was named a first team tight end for the All American team, according to the Dean College blog. In 2012 Whitehead rushed for a total of 294 yards on 46 attempts and scored three touchdowns. He also caught a total of 30 passes for a total of 602 yards, averaging of 20.1 yards per catch, according to Dean…

Osbourn Park High competed against its closest neighbor, Manassas Park High School in a high-powered wrestling match this weekend at Magruder High, in Rockville, MD. Though the schools are on the same street, Euclid Avenue, their placing in the tournament were very different. Osbourn Park was deemed the champions of the match while Manassas Park finished last out of the 10 teams, Manassas Park High wrestling Coach Mark Payne said. Manassas Park's own Anthony Pinto was the only tournament placer for the high school. "Anthony had a great tournament. Anthony wrestled heavyweight for us, weighing only about 225 pounds, Payne said.
