George Allen, the favored Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, dropped by the Aol Dulles campus Friday and talked to employees and readers of the Internet giant about his ideas for the future of technology and innovation in the U.S. “We talk about America being the world capital of innovation. Report: Businesses Sharing More of the Tax Burden

Businesses are sharing more of the tax load in Manassas.

Residents in Manassas are now sharing more of the tax burden with the business community, according to a report from the Commissioner of the Revenue. Residential property owners paid nearly 69 percent of the real estate property taxes in 2007 and in fiscal year 2011 paid 58 percent, according to the report.  In 2007, commercial properties paid only 26 percent of the real estate property taxes and are now paying nearly 35 percent. "There's been a slight shift in the burden of who is paying taxes," John Grzejka, commissioner of the revenue for the City of Manassas, told council members last Monday. Lockheed Martin Moving Jobs to Manassas

Lockheed Martin is moving 170 jobs from its Eagan, Minn, facility to Manassas starting in 2012.

The question Americans everywhere are asking these days: where are the jobs? After Lockheed Martin released plans in November to close its Eagan, Minn., facility by 2013, 1,000 employees were left to wonder about their futures. Friday, Terri Herr, communications manager for Lockheed Martin in Manassas, said that 170 of the positions will move to the company's Manassas facility beginning in 2012. The Eagan-based employees are being asked to make an initial decision on relocating to Manassas by the end of January. Currently, Lockheed Martin employs approximately 1,400 people at its Manassas facility. “We're keeping as many opportunities for those employees already here,” Herr said. “This is not related to any new work here.” “The work …
