Should Parents Be Penalized for Student Tardiness?

Parents in nearby Loudoun County are facing criminal misdemeanor charges after their children were repeatedly late to school.

WTOP reported Monday  that parents in nearby Loudoun County are facing criminal charges because their children were repeatedly late to school. The couple is expected to go to trial to face the misdemeanor charges next month because their three children, who attend a Loudoun County elementary school, were late 150 times over the last two years, according to the report. The father, identified as Mark Denicore, a lawyer, said most of the tardies were only by a few minutes and the real issue is the public school system is attempting to criminalize the problem. According to school officials in Loudoun County, they are required to report such excessive tardiness and the act is disruptive to other students and teachers. The parents are facing …

I am not a morning person, and neither are my kids~ as a result, they are sometimes tardy 1 or two times a YEAR, not 75 times a year. I agree with all the other comments …   more ›

A judge has ordered Justin Michael Wolfe be returned to death row just three months after he was moved to Sussex II State Prison.  Wolfe was removed from death row on Sept. 7, once a murder-for-hire charge against him for the shooting death of Daniel Robert Petrole Jr. in Bristow was vacated in July. Richmond Times Dispatch is reporting that U.S. District Judge Raymond Jackson ordered Wolfe be removed from administrative segregation at the state prison because he found that Department of Corrections officials had violated federal law by not asking his permission before moving him from his cell on death row, and that the reasons given by officials for transferring Wolfe were "inconsistent." The judge said Wolfe received harsher restrictions…

All charges against this individual were vacated by a U.S. District Judge in July. The state had 90 days from the July date to decide if they were going to appeal or not. The state made the decision to appeal in the time allotted. The appeals process can take months maybe even years, so unless I am missing something a person is sitting in jail with no charges against him.   more ›
