Old Dominion Speedway has been located in Manassas for nearly 60 years, but it could be moving to a new home not in Prince William County.
Manassas' Old Dominion Speedway could be moving to a new location, south of Prince William County, InsideNova.com reported today. The venue's owner, Steve Britt, told the local newspaper he's looking to move the raceway south on I-95, due to the increase of residential neighborhoods surrounding its current location on Dumfries Road. He said this and future plans for the area are reasons behind the move. The move would likely happen after the 2013 season and the area could be rezoned residential. Two discount packages available for some racing fun at Manassas' Old Dominion Speedway.
Groupon.com has a deal right now for 50 percent off stock-car racing packages at Old Dominion Speedway, located on Dumfries Road in Manassas. According to deal savings website, those with a need for speed can "buckle up alongside a licensed driver to race around the track at full speed" for just $30. The same package would normally cost you $60. Package purchasers will be able to travel the same tracks once driven by racers Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip and Bobby Allison, the website states. For those speed demons who want to be the ones doing the driving, an 'Extreme Driving Experience' package is also available at 50 percent off. He's On Track To Raise Funds for Families of Cancer Patients
Timmy Tyrrell remembers the first time he tried Go-Kart racing at the age of 4 at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas. “I was a little scared, but once I tried it, it was like ‘hey it’s not too bad, it’s fun!’” the 7-year-old Manassas boy said. Then competition struck, as another child told Tyrrell he was too small to race. More determined than ever, Tyrrell went home and practiced everyday for “hours,” said his mom, Tina, who was worried about the yard and the neighbors. “And then that child showed up at the next race and Timmy said, ‘See you, bye, ’ took off and won the next 5 races," his mom said. I grew up at the Race Track My Daddy and family was apart of a team and my Daddy was a driver. Any one that complains about the noise has not gone to a race nor taken their children or grandchildren to a race.The only reason they are going to move the track is for money.
