About half of the funds needed for Ozzy's surgery have been donated since Sunday and a Manassas veterinary practice has agreed to do the operation for half the cost.
Volunteers have raised about half of the funds needed to operate on Ozzy, a West Highland Terrier, who was found seriously injured after escaping from his abductor last month in Manassas. Original estimates for the surgery on the dog's leg were as high as $6,000, but then that amount was reduced to $3,000, said Melissa Korzuch, president of the Prince William Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or (PWSPCA). Thankfully, the Veterinary Surgical Referral Practice in Manassas agreed to operate on the dog for about half the cost, Korzuch said. About $6,000 is needed to treat a dog seriously injured by a suspect who allegedly taped he and another dog's legs and mouths before throwing them in the trunk of a car. Ozzy, a West Highland Terrier, and his female companion were abducted April 17 from a home on Quail Run Lane, in the Manassas area of Prince William County following an alleged dispute between the victim and the suspect, authorities said. Ozzy was able to escape from the car near Thoroughfare Drive where he was found by a passing motorist and taken to an animal hospital. Early-morning incident in parking lot Saturday, according to Prince William County Police.
Employees of a Manassas-area Chipotle faced a gunman early in the morning Saturday, according to Officer Jonathan Perok, a Prince William County Police spokesperson. Officers responded to the Chipotle parking lot at 9511 Liberia Avenue at 12:52 a.m. Saturday. No injuries were reported and no shots were fired. Employees told police they were leaving the business after closing and encountered an unknown man in the parking lot, Perok said. The man pulled out a handgun and pointed it towards the employees, but no threats were made. The employees ran to a nearby business and the man was last seen fleeing the area in a truck. U.S. Marshals and Prince William County Police Street Crimes Unit locate accused in Washington, D.C.
Prince William County police have made an arrest in the investigation of a rape May 7 on Community Drive near Manassas. Lucas Balmoris Orellana Chicas, 34, of no fixed address, was charged with rape. A court date is unavailable and he is currently held in Washington, D.C., awaiting extradition. Chicas was arrested Thursday in D.C. through the cooperation of U.S. Marshals and the Prince William County Police Street Crimes Unit, according to PWCPD spokesperson Officer Jonathan Perok. The victim, 19, told police that she was in a residence with Chicas when he raped her. Following the assault, Chicas was confronted by a friend of the victim and an altercation ensued, Perok said. Manassas Park, Manassas City and Prince William County Police conducted the investigation this week.
Seven were arrested Thursday in a joint investigation conducted by officers from four law enforcement agencies. Manassas Park Police, the Manassas Police Special Problems Unit, the Prince William County Police Special Investigations Unit and the Drug Enforcement Administration conducted routine enforcement in all three jurisdictions this week. Prince William County Police detectives have arrested a Manassas-area man suspected of being involved in a heroin-buying transaction, according to a police spokesperson. William Michael Berger Jr., 25, of 9173 Firethron Court, is charged with possession of a schedule one or two narcotic, police reports show. The investigation leading up to the arrest actually happened on Feb. 21, but detectives didn't publicize the arrest because of an ongoing investigation. Officers with the Prince William County Police Street Crimes Unit said they stopped the suspect near Balls Ford Road and Ashton Avenue after he had completed a drug transaction involving heroin. Incident likely overnight Sunday or early Monday morning, according to Prince William County Police.
A Manassas area business reported a break-in Monday, according to Prince William County Police. At 8:58 a.m. on Monday, Prince William County Police responded to YMS Solutions at 10535 Crestwood Drive regarding a burglary. The door to the business had been forced open, according to police, but no property appeared to have been missing. The owner told police the burglary like occured between 4 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m Monday.

Prince William County Police say no injuries, no property damage reported.
Prince William County Police responded to reports of shots fired in the Manassas area on Monday night, according to police spokesperson Jonathan Perok. At 7:44 p.m. Monday, officers were called to the 11900 block of Coverstone Hill Circle. The caller reported to police that a large group was seen fighting in the area, according to Perok. It appears that someone in the group fired multiple shots during the fight. The group dispersed before police arrived, according to Perok. No injuries or property damage was reported. No suspects were located.
