Release, Nova Medical Group: More than 100 people attended the Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Nova Medical & Urgent Care Center’s Gainesville office. The event took place at the new office, 6950 Piedmont Center Plaza, Gainesville, on April 10 from 5-8 p.m. At this open house event, attendees enjoyed site tours of the newly built facility, provider meet-and-greets, food and refreshments. In addition, a number of interactive demos were performed to educate the community on Nova’s integrative services. Prince William County Police arrest Richard Kelly Hiner on March 2.
Prince William County Police investigators have arrested a man in connection to the armed robbery Feb. 24 of the Gainesville Game Stop store, according to Prince William County Police spokesman Jonathan Perok. Richard Kelly Hiner, 35, was charged with robbery. His court date is set for April 10 and he is being held without bond. According to Perok, detectives received a tip that led them to Hiner. The suspect turned himself in to police on Saturday. The Game Stop at 7336 Atlas Walk Way was robbed near 6 p.m. on Feb. 24. Just prior to closing, a man walked into a rear storage area holding a knife. He reportedly stole two gaming consoles, valued at $600, and fled the store.

Lee Highway in western Prince William County is closed after a train struck a car on the railroad tracks, according to Prince William County Police reports. It happened around 8 p.m. at the railroad crossing on Lee Highway in Gainesville. The driver of the car was able to escape before impact, Prince William police reported on their Facebook page Wednesday night. No injuries were reported. The fire happened on Aug. 10 in Haymarket.
Police named a Haymarket man as a suspect in the August burning of a Baptist church in the small Western Prince William County town where he lives. Maurice Thomson Michaely was arrested Thursday and charged with burning or destroying a dwelling house, Prince William County Fire Battalion Chief Curtis Brodie wrote in a press release on Friday. The blaze happened in the early morning hours of Aug. 10 at the 135-year-old Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on Lee Highway, according to WJLA reports. Church members told reporters from the ABC affiliate station that they were able to salvage two Bibles—one from the pulpit—after the blaze. Jennie Dean third graders encountered special guests at school on Tuesday. Nancy Ogan, Farm Manager at Double “O” Good Alpacas (Historic Falkland Farm in Gainesville), brought a couple Alpaca friends to the local elementary school's Sunshine Courtyard. Students from six third grade classrooms got to pet and ask questions about the animals on a beautiful day of outdoor learning. Did your school or PTA do something special this week? BJ’s Wholesale Club has opened in Gainesville and will be celebrating the newest Virginia location with a grand opening event this weekend. The 80,000 sq. ft. club is located at the Promenade at Virginia Gateway Town Center at 5100 Wellington Road, and offers significant savings on everything from groceries to clothes and electronics. BJ’s will host a grand opening celebration this weekend Saturday January 28 and Sunday January 29 for both members and non-members. Plow & Hearth has opened its newest outlet store in nearby Gainesville just in time for the holiday season. The temporary store is located in Virginia Gateway Shopping Center and will be open until at least through the holidays, according to a press release issued by the company Tuesday. Funny that the guy arrested doesn't even match the description... he's 5'10" and 35 years old. That's a big difference from who police were looking for a 6'1" male between the age of 25-30. I guess its just easier to arrest the first person a "tip" is provided on rather than doing real investigative work.   more ›
