Jennie Dean Elementary School PTA, volunteers and students paint world map on school's blacktop, which will be used as a learning tool for the upcoming school year.
A group of adult and youth volunteers joined forces with the Jennie Dean Elementary School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at the end of the year for several painting projects on the grounds of the school. The newly-painted world map will provide an outdoor learning space for students and teachers, who will have access to a booklet of games relating to the map. The PTA plans to continue working on projects throughout the summer including painting the USA Map, also on the school's blacktop. They also hope to freshen up the school's 4-square courts and finish paingting the garden wall—the site of the school's new garden plots. The U.S. Map project and Garden Wall project will be ongoing after school with available children (with permission…

Jennie Dean third graders encountered special guests at school on Tuesday. Nancy Ogan, Farm Manager at Double “O” Good Alpacas (Historic Falkland Farm in Gainesville), brought a couple Alpaca friends to the local elementary school's Sunshine Courtyard. Students from six third grade classrooms got to pet and ask questions about the animals on a beautiful day of outdoor learning. Did your school or PTA do something special this week? Announce it to everyone on Manassas Patch.

The Jenny Dean Elementary School Parent/Teachers Association is doing some fun and creative stuff for students, staff and families this week. Dubbed 'Take Your Family to School Week,' the national PTA event is an effort to "build the relationship between our school and families" and "promote parent involvement at school," according to a flier sent home to Dean families. "As a parent, you matter more than you can possibly imagine to your child(ren)'s everyday succes," the flier reads. In honor of Valentine's Day, Dean PTA volunteers served parents coffee, tea and hot chocolate in their car when they dropped off their little learners on Tuesday. (see photos). Here is the rest of the schedule for Jennie Dean's Take Your Family to School Week:

Mills said one of her goals as new assistant principal at Jennie Dean Elementary School is to be "as visible as possible" in an effort to build strong, positive relationships with staff, students and parents.
Kara Mills said one of her goals as new assistant principal at Jennie Dean Elementary School is to be "as visible as possible." This, she said, will help build positive relationships with the students, staff and parents—another one of her goals. And Mills is seen everywhere at the school, from outside at the kiss and ride and bus lines to the lunch room and PTA meetings. She also makes it a point to stop by classrooms with her bag of stars to chat with the students about what they are learning. If they can tell her, they get a star. Mills believes it is these simple interactions that helps achieve the goal of "building that positive relationship." Once you build the relationship, everything else seems to fall in place, she said. Faculty sipped lemonade, wrote messages of gratefulness on new dry-erase picnic tables and admired six new raised beds for school use.
Students head back to school this week, but one rising Kindergartener has already gotten a glimpse of what school is going to be like, thanks to a partnership between Jennie Dean Elementary School and the local 4H Green Club. The Manassas City elementary school was the site of a Lemonade Reception last Thursday to celebrate and debut newly-built raised garden beds. The event was held by the local 4H Green Club and was attended by school staff, including principal Dr. Robin A. Toogood ll. What was being celebrated? Six new raised beds (one for each grade), three new dry-erase tables and two additional rain barrels—all made possible through a Lowe's Toobox for Education Grant. The grant request was a collaborated effort by the Manassas City …
