Buy your produce at the Farmer’s Market. Buying as much groceries as possible locally saves more energy on commuting. Plus, it’s likely more fresh with fewer preservatives than grocery stores and it supports local businesses and farm growers. Start carpooling. If you have a neighbor or someone that lives close to you who commutes to your place of work, or somewhere close to it, offer to start carpooling. You could even suggest an initiative to management at work with a carpooling promotion that offers employee gas rewards in the form of gift cards or some other benefit. These working class Americans live and breathe community. They dedicate their time, and in some cases even their lives, to helping others. Most of them do not do their job for money; they do it for the sake of honor and service to their fellow citizens. Some of them even work around the clock, serving night shifts while most of us are sleeping. They all deserve to be thanked for their hard work in respect of Labor Day. 1.
